Importance of personal hygiene

"Health is wealth" says the proverb and children must be made aware that a clean body leads to a healthy mind and spirit. it is very important that children are introduced to healthy personal hygiene habits from an early age so that it becomes the part and parcel of life.

bathe daily:- The most personal hygiene tip is to keep your body clean by bathing regularly, many of us daily bath in winter season. thinking we are clean because we have not perspired. that is not the truth A daily bath keeps your body fresh and clean. for those with bad body odour frequent showers is a must.

Use a deodorant/anti-perspirant:- We all perspire, so use a nice deodorant to keep your smelling fresh, Stay away from strong and harsh scents

Keep your nails clean:- when grooming yourself, make sure your toenails and fingernails regularly cut and clean.

Wear clean clothes:- Wash your clothes regularly make sure you change your clothes everyday especially your undergarments. this protects you from rashes and other skin disorder. make sure that your clothes are well ironed. when you look good you feel good

Brush your teeth:- nothing is more unattractive than yellow or stained teeth at least twice a day a regular brush ensures that you do not have any bad breath or tooth decay. Rinse your mouth after every meal to get rid of those bits stuck in the cavities.

pamper your hair:- When keeping your body clean. you must naturally keep your hair clean and tidy too. Use a good shampoo and conditioner, which suits your hair texture. Choose a hairstyle that suits your face and bone structure.

Drink plenty of water:- Drinking at least 1.5 liters of water a day is good or health because does wonders for digestive system and ridsbody toxins. It also keeps the skin glowing and reduces acne.

Eat right:- be careful of what you eat. too much oily food and colas are bad for skin, In the long run they are also bad for heart and kidneys.

How to manage your 24 hours

Find out where you are wasting your time Before you begin, make a daily routine of what you do during the day.you will be surprised to find out that you are spending so much time doing nothing.

cut down on after school activities While its great to be perfect and a part of debating club,dramatic club,quiz club,library squad and every other school group , it is impossible to manage all these and also find time to study and relax. make a conscious decision on which club you really want to go

Plan your study time like your school hours,your study period should also be a fixed time everyday. make your family nad friends aware of that from this to this time everyday is your study time. stick to it as far as possible.

Find out your best way of studying Some people are good audio learners, some are good visual learners, some need absolute silence when studying ,while others need to listen to music. there is no one correct way. however unorthodox your way may be,if it helps you to remember , make it your way.

Maintain a study planner mark your upcoming exams in red and projects in green.blot out special days like birthdays and festivals. now make your study plan. if you follow this systematically, you will find that you have enough time to enjoy a birthday party or a festival without worrying about not studying.

Follow a daily routine Keep specific time for specific things. by following a daily routine, you will also find that you are having your meals on time and have a plenty of time to do other things.

Plane your play time This is extremely important. you remember the age-old adage,all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. keep at least an hour everyday for 'your time'. don't waste it by lazing in front of the tv or chatting on thenet. do some physical activity.

Cut down on tv viewing have your fixed hour or so of tv viewing. choose one or two programmes that you would like to watch.

Teach yourself to relax don't get stressed out. once stressed, you waste half your time worrying. learn to relax by listening to music or doing yoga for about half an hour everyday. they are wonderful stress buster. if you are worried about something,don't keep it inside you, discuss it with a friend or someone close to you.

Keep your things in an orderly fashion So many of us waste half our time searching for things that we have 'kept away safely'. by properly managing your books and toys yourself, you know where exactly each thing is.

How to spend quality time with your child

We as a parents, are often so caught up with work and house hold chores that we sometime forget to spend the quality time with our children. the nurturing and caring we needed during the child's growing year through puberty and all the way through early adulthood is very crucial in laying down the foundation for your child's future and well-being



MAKE THE TIME Obviously, you first need to make the time. i know it is easier said than done, but try to keep aside some 'uninterrupted' time for them in the evening.

MAKE THE TIME WORTHWHILE The time spent them must be quality time. both of you sitting infront of the tv is not that. talk about the day, ask them how their day was, play a board game like scrabble, ludo or carom.

TURN OFF INTERRUPTION You cannot spend quality if your mobile keeps ringing or you have one eye on the tv news. switch your phone off. let your colleagues and friends know that between such and such time you are unavailable. turn off the television, unless your time together is about watching your child's favourite show.yes' sharing the time doing something your child like quality time

DON'T FORCE IT Both should look forward to it . if your attitude is: " oh no ! here goes another boring hour", it's better notmaking it a routine. your child too has wants. find out if the time frame suits her. it is not quality time if she is ruing missing her favourite cartoon or playing with her friends.

BE SINCERE When spending quality time with your child, listen intently and be sincere. a child knows too well when you are not paying attention to what he or she has to say. if you are thinking about what to cook or wondering if whether all the required groceries are there, you are not being sincere

THINK OF DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO TOGETHER Quality time together does not mean only having a conversation with your child or playing a game of carom. it can include variety of activity like a movie , baking together , shopping or even a lazy walk round the neighbourhood.

SPEAK WITH THEM This is the best time to find out what, actually, your child like doing, what are her dreams, her fear... who is her favourite actor, what' her favourite colour if you have funny or nice memories , share with them. children love hearing tales about their parents when the
y were young.

How to raise a child to be an achiever

IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL School comes first. When school is on,studies should be given priority. True success in school is not about getting top grades, it is about developing a lifelong love of learning and enjoying the classroom atmosphere.



ENCOURAGE, DON'T PUSH It is important to encourage your child, but do not push him/her too hard. being able to choose what he/she wants to play with gives him/her a feeling of having control over his life and gives him self-confience

NEVER MAKE THE TEACHER THE ENEMY "If you don't do it i will tell your teacher!" this gives birth to a phobia for 'teachers' and in the long run for 'studies'.

BEING INDEPENDENT Encourage your child to be independent. allow theme to eat by themselves. initially they will make a mess but gradually they will learn. allow them to choose thier clothes and dress themselves. be there only to guide them if they are going drastically wrong. giving your child an opportunity to make choices builds his self-confidence and decision making skills, which are important for his development. the faster your child learns to be independent ,the sooner he will begin t shine.

BE A ROLE MODEL A child's first role models are parents. you need to be on your best behaviour in front of them, especially in the formative years. if your child sees you doing creative things, he/she will imitate you.

WORKING IN A TEAM In a team, there are some more members who will give ideas and some members who are better at carrying out those ideas. find out what type of a team member your child is work on those strengths. as part of a team, it is very important to listen to others.sometimes, we are so busy talking that we do not hear what others are saying. perhaps that is why we have tow ears and one mouth so that we can listen more than we can speak

READING HOUR Schedule a regularly reading session when everyone reads independently. it is important for your child to see you read. a reading atmosphere breeds the reading habit. Encourage them to make a DEAN their best friend. DEAN stands for dictionary, encyclopedia,atlas,newspaper. whenever they have a query they can go to DEAN

PLAY WITH THE SAME AGE GROUP When your kid play with other kids, he learns to combine ideas,impression and feeling with other kids' experiences and opinions,don't alienate your kid, especially if you have only one child, they need to grow in an environment with others of their age group and opinions

TALK WITH YOUR CHILD Don't talk to your child,talk with him. two way communication is extremely important. get out of 'baby talk' as early as possible.

ENCOURAGE YOUR KID TO EXERCISE Physical exercise not only makes your child strong, it makes them smart ! running about and playing increases the flow of blood to the brain and builds new brain cells. if your child is hyper-active,divert his energy into activities like dance,tennis or some other sport.

DON'T FORCE THEM INTO ANYTHING School to dance class,to tuition to tennis lessons, to computer class, to art class to.... when does the child get to play ? don't push your child into anything which he or she is not interested in. Remember, the child willl never ne an achiever in a field that he/she dislikes

EAT A VARIETY OF NUTRIENT-RICH FOODS Our body needs more than 40 different nutrient for good health, and no single food supplies them all. we should eat a healthy combination of food during the day. if you have had an extra-heavy lunch, compensate with light dinner.

EAT ENOUGH CARBOHYDRATES Carbohydrates like rice,pasta,wholegrain bread and potatoes provide us with the energy we need. more than half the calorie intake should be in the form of carbohydrate.

ENJOY PLENTY OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES How many times have you heard this being said. it's true. fruits and vegetables are a must to stay healthy and fit.

UNDERSTAND YOUR DIET Understand what is wrong with your eating habits. write down everything you eat for 3 days. then check your list. are you eating too much butter or sugar ? are you getting enough fruit and vegetables ? now balance your food intake. remember, there are no good food and no bad food, there are only good diets and bad diets

MAKE CHANGES GRADUALLY There are no shortcuts or easy answer to a healthy diet. you cannot and should not change overnight. your body needs to adjust to the change in food intake gradually

EAT MODERATE PORTIONS If you keep portion sizes reasonable, it's easier to eat the foods you want and stay healthy. do not glut on your favourite foods.

EAT REGULARLY Never skip a meal, especially breakfast. snacking between meals can help curb hunger, but don't eat so much that your snack becomes an entire meal. eat at least 4 meals a day

DRINKS ENOUGH FLUIDS Doctors advise to drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day . a large glass of water, first thing in the morning, is believed to be very beneficial.

REDUCE, DO NOT ELIMINATE CERTAIN FOODS If your favourite foods are high in cholestrol ,milk,salt or sugar, the key is moderating how much of these foods you eat and hoe often you eat them, not banishing them completely

The English language is a large intricate maze of lanes and by-lanes . follow the rules correctly and you will find your way through easily.



THE OPENING Your opening should be like a first goal. you should open with a bang, intriguing the reader to continue.

STICK TO THE TOPIC for example If you are talking about football,stick to football and don't deviate to baseball, unless you need to clarify something.

DO NOT USE BOMBASTIC WORDS There are some of us who thinks that the bigger or more 'bombastic' the words the better the sentence. Remember, no one wants to sit down to read your essay with a dictionary beside them. the use of new, different words do add colour to your piece, only if used effectively and where necessary.

KEEP THE SENTENCE SHORT To keep your sentence 'error-ridden' free, the ideal solution is to keep your sentences short and simple. Stay away from long-winded sentences and will invariably be grammatically incorrect.

MIND YOUR GRAMMAR Bad grammar is like ugly footwork. you might get a sneaky four here and there but you will never win the reader's heart.

USE CORRECT PUNCTUATION Many of us nowadays have no clue as to when to use the comma and when to use the semi-colon. The 'dash' has replaced the colon and a 'double exclamation mark' adorns the end of most sentences if you are not 'punctuation-strong',remember by keeping your sentences short, you can bypass this problem.

USE OF ACTIVE & PASSIVE VOICE The though the active voice is preferred, most grammarians agree that the passive voice should be used when the receiver of the action is more important than the doer. Eg.: 'the city was devastated by a tsunami.' rather than ' a tsunami devastated the city.'

USAGE OF ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS Adjective and adverbs are the sixes and fours in your essay . they are what make what you write looks all the more interesting . use different adjectives to describe the same noun and different adverbs to express the verb, try it out as a daily exercise - it also makes an interesting game!

MEMORABLE ENDING Like the opening, the ending too must be special and exciting. like your favourite ice-cream, your essay too should leave a lingering taste with the reader.

The right way to exercise

There is no doubt that time spent on warming up a cooling down improves your level of performance and accelerates the recovery process needed before and after your fitness training . the warm up and cool down phase should be considered an essential part of your training.
Benefits of a warm up muscle stiffness is directly related to muscle injury . therefore .a warm up should be aimed at reducing muscle stiffness.
It should consist of jogging for 5 to 10 minutes to increase body temperature . Dynamic stretching exercise for 10 to 15 minutes to reduce muscle stiffness. Dynamic stretches are more appropriate to the warm up as they help reduce muscle stiffness. static stretching exercise do not reduce muscle stiffness . An appropriate warm up session leads to an improved exercise performance in the following ways.
1) increased speed of contraction and relaxation of warmed muscle.
2) Dynamic exercise reduce muscle stiffness.
3)Greater economy of movement because of lowered viscous resistance within muscle.
4) Higher oxygen utilisation by warmed muscle because haemoglobin releases oxygen more readily at higher muscle temperature.
5) Improved nerve transmission and muscle metabolism at higher temperature ; a specific warm up can facilitate motor unit recruitment required in subsequent all out activity.
6) Increased blood flow through active tissues as local vascular beds dilate , increasing metabolism and muscle temperature.
7) allows the heart rate to get to a workable rate for beginning exercise.

Benefits of cooling down cooling down should consist of the following.
1) jogging or walking for five to ten minutes to decrease body temperature and removing waste products from working muscle.
2) static stretching exercises for 5 to 10 minutes.static stretches are more appropriate to the cool down phase as they help muscle to relax, realign muscle fibres and re-establish their normal range of movement . these stretches should be held for approximately 10 seconds.

How should a gentleman behave in a restaurant

1 choose a restaurant befitting your mood and that of your guest.
2 book a table in advance. do not hesitate to ask if you can expect a quiet meal.
3 dress appropriately and arrive on time.
4 always stand up when a lady joins you at the table, or when she leaves it.
5 at no point should you engage in loud argument with the waiter or manager. if unhappy with anything, have an unobtrusive word to deal with it.
6 do not wave cutlery around to emphasis a point or use a toothpick at the table.
7 do not snap your fingers to call the waiter.
8 do not be so loud that you disturb conversations at adjoining tables.
9 if disturbed by fellow diners or children , quietly complain to the manager, who shoulde ideally deal with the situation effectively.
10 be attentive to people at your table, listen to them and let them order thier meal before you order yours.
11 never use your cell phone at table.
12 do not appear to ponder too long over the bill or tip.
13 once seated , unfold the napkin and use it occasionally to wipe the tips of of your fingers or mouth . at the end of the meal , leave your napkin folded on the left side of the plate.
14 know your cutlery and glasses.
15 bring food to your mouth, not your mouth to the food.
